What do you enjoy most in your current role and why?

Meeting nurses and midwives in various roles and supporting their genomics knowledge. I have learned so much about the depth and breadth of our profession and how incredibly talented and innovative the teams are.

Can you tell us about one of the biggest challenges you have had to overcome in your career?

My biggest challenge was overcoming being consistently underestimated, which held me back from being able to take up development opportunities.

What advice would you give to newly qualified nurses?

Find a role model who you would like to emulate and find out how they got to where they are or better yet, ask them to be your mentor!

If you were the next health minister, what would you tackle first and why?

I’d like to prioritise staffing and patient safety. This is crucial for our patients to get the best care but also for nurses and all healthcare professionals to have the time and space for professional development, to innovate and to achieve work-life balance.

What are you looking forward to at Nursing Live this year?

Meeting loads of nurses and hearing about the great work that is being done in practice. I am also looking forward to experiencing the vibrant city of Liverpool!
