Anita Murphy
Lead nurse East Genomic Medicine Service Alliance, East GMSA – based at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital
With over 33 years of nursing experience, Anita has built a diverse career spanning secondary, primary, and community care settings. Before taking on her current position as Lead Nurse for East Genomic Medicine Service Alliance, she served as the Diabetes Team Lead at Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust (NCH&C) and held a unique seconded role as the Genetic Diabetes Nurse for the East of England, based with the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Trust.
These roles have provided opportunities to present at national and regional conferences, and to contribute to peer-reviewed journals and digital information campaigns. Throughout her career, Anita has witnessed the evolving scope of nursing—particularly how nurses are uniquely positioned to lead change at the intersection of clinical care and emerging science.
Her experience in both diabetes and genomic medicine now informs my strategic work in embedding genomics into everyday healthcare. Anita is passionate about highlighting the critical role of nurses as educators, advocates, and innovators in this space—ensuring that genomics is accessible, ethical, and impactful for all patients.
